Classical Guitar

Jump into a lineage of study that connects elements and influences dating back through over 3 centuries of composers for the guitar, lute, and vihuela. Students will develop and apply a working knowledge of music theory to analyze and interpret scores for solo guitar and chamber performance. Students will have consistent opportunities to attend available forums and masterclasses and will be encouraged to compete in guitar competitions if desired to do so.

  • All experience levels are welcome! Classical guitar can be a great starting place for developing healthy performance habits for the emerging guitarists. We will start out learning the functionality of the instrument. Explore how to properly hold and proper hand placement to prep for your first few pieces all of which we pull from a prescribed method book, eventually working our way into more nuanced performance repertoire.

  • With the first lesson/consultation we will explore all necessary supplies/consumables as well as optimal scale sizes for the instrument depending on the size/age of the student. I highly recommended in any genre of study that students not start on an oversized guitar as it can greatly hinder initial progress. Save that guitar in that attic for something to grow into! Below are just some general approximations cost wise be aware that * items are typically recurring cost purchased as needed.

    • 1x nylon string guitar ($250-$800)

    • nylon guitar strings ($20)*

    • guitar support/footstool($20-$100)

    • nail kit ($20-$40)

    • music stand ($20-$100)

Feel free to reach out and we can explore all the various options and references for where to purchase I can answer any questions you might have.

  • Depending on the size of the studio every year I plan to coordinate ensemble rehearsals and masterclasses for students interested. With the ensemble we will spend time rehearsing set music once a week to prep for a final performance/recital. With masterclasses you typically perform for an audience featuring a master guitarist present. There’s a great network of guitarists all globally known, who fly in annually offering these experiences.
